Lia + Mitch
Moorish Room – Greysolon Plaza
What a way to kick off 2019! Lia + Mitch are brilliant, busy and crazy organized people… that love to have a good time! You are going to love their story as Lia tells it below!
Mitch and I met in high school, it was one of those moments that would impact our lives forever. He was waiting for his basketball game to start while I was working on an art project. He sat at my table, reached for my iPod, and just starting talking to me. He took me on my first date and I’ve been hooked ever since. We went to college in different states and neither of us wanted to hold the other back so we decided to pause our relationship; if it was meant to be, it would be. Of course we didn’t know it then, but a few years impromptu dates during our frequent visits home, it became obvious to everyone but us that what we shared was significant. During Mitch’s last year, we both realized we were tired of flying solo and the experiences were always better when we were side by side.
He made me laugh and smile, he had me questioning everything, he helped me dream, and he brought out the best in me – he still does 11 years later.
Popping the Question…
So funny story…We’d known we were going to marry each other since we made our frequent dates official (finally!). We’d been talking about rings and weddings and continuing our lives together after we tied the knot. We went to a jewelry store so Mitch could learn what my “style” was – which turned into such a frustrating day for me. I found a ring I absolutely loved, but Mitch was just not into it, no interest whatsoever! A month later, I learned why… Mitch had bought me a ring before we went to the jewelry store – he had already bought the ring I absolutely loved – but didn’t want me knowing it, so he feigned disinterest the entire time we were at the jewelry store!
He proposed to me at Lester Park while we were in Duluth visiting friends. It was such a magical weekend, seeing the lights at Bentleyville and being with friends we don’t get to see often. I wasn’t expecting him to propose in the snow after we’d walked around the cozy park. That’s when we knew we wanted a winter wedding – so we began to plan!
When Two Planners Make a Plan…
It was easy to have exactly what we wanted – once we decided what that was. Planning a wedding while in grad school was an interesting decision. But Mitch made the experience pain free. He jumped into the task of researching and corresponding with possible vendors. The day after Mitch proposed, we went to look at a venue – the Moorish Room at Greysolon. It was gorgeous. We booked it the following week. Everything just fell into place from there. The vendors already knew each other and worked well together, which made for an amazing day we will remember always.
Throughout our year-long planning process, Mitch and I were made fun of because of how on top of things we were (sometimes overly so). I had lists upon lists of things needing to get done and Mitch was there every step of the way, taking charge, emailing, and calling people. We’re planners, always have been and always will be!
Cheers to the Future…
Our wedding day was honestly the best day of our lives. We wanted a day to remember, not just for us, but for our guests also. We got that and then some. Mitch’s favorite moment of the day was our time spent on our shuttle bus and taking pictures with our wedding party and family. Time slowed down and it was just us and our closest friends and family. Unable to choose, the whole day was my favorite moment. From waking up and shouting “It’s wedding day!” to getting ready with my girls, our first look, pictures, dinner, dancing, and falling asleep next to my best friend, soulmate, and husband. Everything was perfect.
